WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A VOLUNTEER AT THIS MUSEUM?The Army Museum of Western Australia is privileged to currently have a team of more than 90 active volunteers that manage and conserve our collection as well as deliver the essential services ensuring our visitors enjoy a memorable experience during their visit to our heritage listed home at Artillery Barracks, Fremantle. All volunteers are members of the Army Museum of Western Australia Foundation, a company of limited liability formed specifically to support the museum through supplying volunteers to run the museum on behalf of the Army and to provide funding. For more details on how the museum is organised and operates, go to the Museum Organisation page. The museum has a number of volunteer employment opportunities. You do not require to have been in any military service to qualify and employment is offered regardless of age or gender.
During the latter part of the year 2008 and into 2009 the WA Army Museum will undergo a significant expansion. The museum will then expand to occupy the whole of the Artillery Barracks site. This move will provide additional space for the museum to display much of the material that is now in storage in new and expanded galleries. It is also intended to open the museum on more days of the week. Whilst the museum has a number of dedicated volunteers more will be needed in order to make these changes happen. The museum is now seeking additional volunteers who will be given training in the various functions that are required. The museum has vacancies in the following areas:
